Snowman

Next, the task was to create a snowman. To do this, I used the sphere tool within Standard Primitives. Placing two spheres on top of each other, the second smaller. The colour as changed to white using the colour panel on the right hand side. The eyes were next. To do this small spheres were used and changed to be black. Finally a cone was used for the nose. I had trouble getting the nose onto the snowman and took a while working out where it was according to all the different perspectives! Finally the Torus shape was used to create a scarf.

After the snowman was made, the material editor was used to add a blinn effect on the scarf. To do this, I selected one of the big blank spheres and customized the settings with blinn. Next you drag the material to the part of the model you wish, in this case it is the scarf.

Next, to create a snow effect, the particle system was used. To find this you go to create, particle and snow. The snow is dragged above the snowman's head, resulting in the snow falling when the play button is pressed.

Introduction to 3DS Max - making a castle

This was the first time I had used a piece of software like 3DS Max. This obviously meant it was quite a strange working environment for me at first. After some experimenting with the different standard primitives it was time to try and create a castle. This was done by creating four boxes and setting them out in a square. Then using the wall shape from AEC Extended to fill in the gaps. Finally putting cones on each of the towers, the castle was complete!

It's not bad for my first ever creation in 3ds max!
